GP 2024 Race 10: Ackworth RR

Race Date: Sunday October 6th, 2024
Race HQ: Ackworth Cricket Club (ACC), WF7 7DF
Race Start: Dicky Sykes Lane (point A on the course map below)
Race Finish: Ackworth Cricket Club (point B on the course map below)
Start Time: 10:30am (number collection from 9:30am)

This will be the final race of our 2024 Grand Prix series, and will be followed by our AGM.

All entrants must report to Race HQ to sign in before going to the start.
At this race, the start and finish are in separate locations, half a mile apart. Unlike at other races this year, runners are therefore required to sign in at Race HQ before starting. This is a safety requirement: we need to know who has gone out onto the course so that we can check that all runners have returned safely. Similarly, any runner who does not finish the race must report to Race HQ before leaving the event, so that we know not to send a search party.

Entry

This is a closed race, for runners affiliated to YVAA (either by membership of an affiliated club or as individuals) and EA. Entry is online only; there is no entry on the day. To enter, you must first register for the series. Fees are £10 for your first race, and £6.75 for additional races (or £6 if you pre-enter them when you register). Entry will close at 10pm on Friday October 4th, or earlier if the race entry limit is reached.

Directions & Parking

All registration, results, presentation and and parking will take place within the grounds of Ackworth Cricket Club, Behind Boot & Shoe Pub, Wakefield Rd (A638), WF7 7DF.

Cars will be directed to the bottom of the field area, 150 yards.

The start is approximately half a mile away at the bottom of Dicky Sykes Lane (point A on the map below).

The race finish is at the cricket club.

Course

Approximately 6 miles, multi-terrain.

The route is undulating within Fitzwilliam Country Park on mostly well marked and marshalled paths. There are two small areas of concrete road within the almost two-lap course which is virtually traffic free.

At the finish, runners will be directed from the side of the Boot & Shoe Pub into the ACC entrance to finish on the cricket field.

Post-Race

Results, presentation and refreshments (tea and biscuits) will take place in the bar. The presentation will be for on-the-day prizes. Prizes for the whole series will be presented at an Awards Evening later in the year.

The YVAA AGM will be held immediately after the presentation.

There are limited changing and shower facilities in the pavilion.

Instructions

Club kit must be worn, along with your race number (front) and age category on the day (back).

Any runner who does not finish the race must report to Race HQ to sign out.
